......that the earliest picture taken of a Golden Retriever in the United States was taken between 1881 - 1894 at the Rocking Chair Ranch in Collingsworth County, Texas.  The ranch owner was the Hon. Archie Majoribanks, son of Lord Tweedmouth.

......the retrieving instinct in very strong in almost all golden retrievers.  You will find that when your dog comes to greet you, he will always bring something in his mouth to present  you with.


......that Mrs. W.M. Charlesworth (Noranby Kennel) bred the first Champion in 1912.  Noranby Campfire born July 24th 1912


......that one of the earliest countires to import the breed was India.  To note is that a fully-Policed trained Golden Retriever guarded the Prime Minister, Mr. Nehur's house and grounds night and day and that the late Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi had Goldens as companions



......that in 1903 the International gundog league's open stake was won  by Mr. A. Williams '  Don of Gerwyn, A liver flat coate sired by Lord Tweedmouth's Golden Flat-Coat Lucifer.  This is clamimed as the first Golden win at a field trial.


......that Viscount Harcore (Culham Kennel) was the first to show Goldens in England at the Crystal Palace show in 1908


......that the very early breeders took great pains to make the Golden Retrievers dual purpose dogs, that is dogs who are workers, and are also capable of winning in the show ring


......that until 1913 Goldens were registered as Flat-Coats and only defined by color


......that is was not until 1920 the English Kennel Club agreed to separate register for Retrievers (Goldens).  Prior to that they were registered as Retrievers (Yellow or Golden).  The English Golden Retriever Club was formed in 1913


......that Viscount  Lewis Harcourt  M.P. of Nuneham Park (Culham Kennels) gave the breed the name Golden Retriver


......that Viscount Harcourt',s Culham Brass , born 1904,  is behind almost every present day Golden Retriever

......that a yellow puppy from a black retriever litter became the forebear of all our present day Golen Retrievers.  His name was Nous and he was whelped in Brighton England in June 1864 and bred by the Earl of Chichester

......that in 1868 Nous was mated to a Tweed water spainel named Bell and four yellow puppies were born.  This litter was the foundation of the Golden Retrieer as a breed.  The litter was bred by Lord Tweedmouth  at Guisachan, Iverness-shire, Scottland.

......that the dogs were originally evolved purely for work
